May 4, 2009 - History was made when a hole-in-one was recorded yesterday at the FAGA Kick-off Classic at Great Rock golf after Ross Ola sank his Titleist ProVi 1 ball into the cup of the 110-yard hole #12 using a #8 iron.
















Ronnie Racuya Wins Match Play

Gutsy in face of stiff competition - that is what can be described of Samantha Lopez-Edwards after losing to Ronnie Racuya on the last hole of finals of the Match Play Championships at Great Rock.

"She is a very tough competitor. (She) cannot be easily intimidated by anyone," said Ian Loleng while monitoring the whole match from his Manhattan office through text messaging courtesy of club president George Javier and director Jojo Tan, who played with the duo to witness the event and send real-time pictures through Javier's iPhone.

Elmer Carido is Player of the Year; Sam Bangug Defends Title

A galant effort by Fe Echavez to catch Elmer Carido for the Player of the Year ended at Pine Ridge when she fell just 8 pts short of winning the most coveted title of the year. Trailing as high as 81 points gong into 8th outing of the season at Cherry Creek, Echavez collected three consecutive 2nd place finishes to finish in second place overall with 343.00 pts. - just 7.75 pts behind Carido's 350.75 pts. - in what could be the closest POY contest since Roger Ramos won by 8.4 pts over James Maniego in 2005.

Team Angels Wins Team Championships

Team CA Angels headed by team captain Rolly Tupaz won the Major League Team Championships at Rock Hill Golf with 67 stableford points over its nearest rival the NY Mets and Detroit Tigers with 53 points apiece. RESULTS

To Rake or Not to Rake

There was a valid argument raised in our last outing in Wild Turkey regarding raking the bunker after a shot that went into another bunker, say a greenside bunker. Rule 13.4a states that you may not test the surface of a hazard prior to playing out of it. Raking the bunker that you last played out of is deemed "testing the ground surface" when your ball is still inside a bunker even if it is not the same bunker.

We are in the mid-season as new champions are created and new faces emerge. Last year and the years before that we always see the same people making the Top 12, year in year out. Old faces like Joe Barreno, Willy Libid, George Javier, Nelson Perez, Noel Blumenau, etc. have lorded it over the past seasons.
