FilAm in Baguio

By aalorro - Posted on 02 January 2008

The FilAm tournament in Baguio, in my mind, is the golfing gods' gift to the passionate Filipino golfers around the world who love their game and their sanity. It is a delightful week of golf, golf and more golf, not to mention the princely galore of food and non-stop entertainment, and the socializing and networking that happens during and after every round. And the night life - don't even get me started on that one!

It has been around for the past 58 years or so and has been touted to be the most anticipated event in the summer capital of these beautiful islands that we at one time or another called home. None of the golfing events or any other event that I've attended compared to the FilAm tournament. I salute the organizers for keeping this tradition alive and well run! This is the reason why it has become a yearly pilgrimage for myself - and myself only - to keep my sanity intact. Having six kids and a wife, a stressful techie job and a childcare business to run is no easy task for a mere mortal like myself. I need a break once in a while to re-charge my batteries and get out of the daily grind of this dog-eat-dog world of corporate America.

Life is too short and I need to get back to the basics even for a short period. Being in Baguio is like living a life of care-free existence. You drift wherever the tide brings you. You are free to do whatever you want to do so long as it is within the bounds of the law. Nobody will care. No strings atached. No worries about trouble at work, no bills to pay, no meetings to attend, no nosy neighbor to fend off. And nobody is in a hurry to get things done! That, my friend, is what I am talking about.

It is like daydreaming only this time it is for real.
